Winter is right around the corner, which means people will be talking about dry skin and the benefits of nourishing scrubs. But scrubs don't get the love they deserve. They are a great year round exfoliator and moisturizer. The best part about sugar scrubs is the ability to customize them to the season. In the summer I love a sugar scrub with some added sea salt, lime, and coconut oil. In the fall I'll do a brown sugar, frankincense, On Guard, orange mix with some grapeseed oil. And in the winter its a candy cane scrub with white sugar, almond oil, and peppermint oil (you can even grind some candy canes for an extra treat).
Here is the ratio I use for my sugar scrubs. You can play around with them to get the one that is perfect for you!
1 cup sugar (you can use brown, white, turbandino-which is a coarser granule for deeper exfoliating, and salts)
1/2 cup oil (almond, olive, grapeseed, avocado, coconut are all great choices)
10-15 drops essential oil (I am a sucker for peppermint in the winter, so that's what I use)
Mix all the ingredients and store in an air tight container. Rub on skin in the shower and then rinse off.
A couple notes for this recipe. Beware if you are using this in the shower you may be introducing bacteria every time you get more scrub out. You'll want to use it within a month. Ours never lasts that long though!
