Do You Know What You're Eating?

Food labels can be confusing. There are a lot of different labels and some don't mean what you think! We love talking to our customers about our chickens and how they are raised. We get our chickens at 1 day old from a hatchery in our state. The chicks spend the first two weeks in a brooder. This is an open area that has heat lamps, feeders, and waterers. It is open to the outside during the

day but closed up at night. As soon as they have some feathers they are moved out to the chicken tractors where they are pastured and moved daily. They are fed certified organic feed from day one. While we feed our chickens all organic and give them more than enough space, we cannot call our chickens organic because they are not processed at an organic processor. There are only two state inspected processors in Iowa, so our options are limited. So you can see, educating yourself on the labels and talking to your farmer will ensure you are getting what you are expecting.

Here is a link to a great blog article outlining more about the different labels and what they mean.
