While biscuits and gravy may not be health food, they're OK to have every once in a while. In fact, I might make some right now. If you're in the mood and you want to make some biscuits and gravy, you're in luck. Here's the recipe.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons butter, cubed
3/4 cup milk
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
In a big bowl, mix up flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together. Use a fork or dough cutter to cut the butter into the mix. It should look like little crumbs.
Make a well with flour mixture and slowly add milk into the middle. Knead dough with your fingers and add milk when necessary. Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to desired thickness. Cut with small biscuit cutter…or anything that is the right size and is circular.
Put biscuits on a baking tray (they can touch) and bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Gravy for Biscuits and Gravy
If you make your own biscuits, great. If you don’t, the store bought tubes are delicious as well.
½ lb ground breakfast sausage (you can find it in the meat case or the frozen section. If you use frozen, thaw it first).
2 Tablespoons butter
4 Tablespoons flour
3 cups cold milk
salt and pepper to taste (use as much as you need)
Cook the sausage in a skillet on med/high until it is cooked all the way (no pink). Remove the sausage with a slotted spoon and leave the grease in the skillet. Add the butter to the grease and melt it.
Add flour whisking constantly for about 2-3 minutes. Add the cold milk A LITTLE at a time. Whisking CONSTANTLY. When you get the milk all added in, add the sausage. Cook it until it is the consistency you want. Add salt and pepper.
